Commissioning a Business Photography Session on Location
Business Photography on Location with Colin Hawkins
When you commission a business photography shoot it’s important to have a detailed discussion about the types of images you want, the desired style, and the art direction. This ensures the photographs align perfectly with your vision.
Business Photography often requires spontaneity, quick thinking, and adaptability to changing environments and unexpected situations, but with careful production planning, many issues are resolved prior to the shoot.
Key Considerations:
Access and Timing
On location doesn’t always mean outdoors—it could be an office, factory, or any other business site. It’s important to address any time constraints or access restrictions in advance to ensure a smooth shoot upon arrival.
Scheduling and Shoot Coordination
Establishing a clear shoot “running order” is essential for ensuring an efficient and organised photography session. This includes outlining key elements such as the schedule, locations, who needs to be present, and their roles during the shoot. Having a staff member act as a coordinator is always helpful in keeping everything on track.
Lighting
Some business locations may have insufficient lighting, or the specific style you’re aiming for could require enhanced lighting to achieve the desired effect. In these cases, I can bring additional lighting equipment to create a more dynamic atmosphere, add drama, or emphasise key individuals and important moments. Whether it’s highlighting a significant person, enhancing the mood, or drawing attention to specific details, the right lighting setup can elevate the overall impact of your corporate photography
Weather Considerations for Outdoor Shoots
If we’re planning an outdoor shoot, the weather is an important factor to consider. I’m always happy to adapt and work in most conditions, as sometimes challenging weather adds depth to the story. Not every moment happens under sunny skies, and those unique conditions can create compelling images.
PPE, Special Equipment, and Safety Protocols
Kindly let me know if PPE, such as high-visibility clothing, hard hats, safety footwear, or masks, is required on site, or if I need to bring any specific equipment. Please inform me of any potential hazards and safety protocols to be aware of. As a professional photographer, I carry public liability and employee insurance.
Model Releases for Commercial Use of Employee Images
A model release is typically needed when a client intends to use an image featuring a recognisable person or identifiable feature for commercial purposes. If your staff or employees appear in the photos, it is the client’s responsibility to secure any necessary clearances and I can supply model release forms for you to complete.
